The Akron Public Schools superintendent will deliver a State of the System address at a luncheon on October 30. This event promises to be an enlightening session as Dr. Robinson, who assumed the role of superintendent in August 2023, shares his vision and plans for the future of Akron Public Schools.
During the luncheon, Dr. Robinson will address significant initiatives, including the recently approved $24 million savings plan, the upcoming operating levy and bond issue on the November ballot, and efforts to address inequities in student opportunities. Following his address, there will be an opportunity for attendees to engage in a Q&A session.

About Dr. C. Michael Robinson
Robinson was named superintendent in August 2023. He holds two doctoral degrees in educational leadership. He is the former superintendent of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, schools and was the chief academic officer of East Baton Rouge Parish School System in Louisiana, before becoming Akron’s superintendent. Upon his hiring in Akron, Robinson said he would be a leader who listens carefully to the community, while acting deliberately to ensure all students get a good education.
“We must ensure that every child in our district has access to an opportunity for high quality education that empowers them to thrive academically, socially and emotionally,” he said.
In May the school board approved a plan to save $24 million by cutting 285 jobs through layoffs and attrition. Of the 285 jobs, 125 were open positions that will not be filled.
The school board voted to put an operating levy and a bond issue on the ballot in November. The anticipated 7.6-mill operating levy would help fund the district's daily expenditures, and the 1.3-mill bond issue would pay for a new $85 million building for North High School.
An outside consultant hired to examine the district found Akron schools doing better than the average large urban school district in many ways, but it has challenges that include inequities of opportunity between groups of students.
